Bring USD for buying a SIM card at the airport - they often don't accept credit cards at the telecom kiosks

Don't forget wet wipes for temple dust! The ancient sites can be very dusty, and you'll want to clean your hands and face frequently

Carry a small pack of tissues or toilet paper - many public restrooms don't provide any

Keep small Egyptian pound notes for tips (baksheesh) and public restrooms

Wear closed-toe shoes at temples - the ground is often uneven and dusty

Many museums and some tombs require a 'photography ticket' - budget extra for this if photography is important to you

Download offline Google Maps of the areas you'll visit before your trip - mobile data can be unreliable in some areas

Many hotels have only 1-2 power outlets in rooms - bring a multi-plug adapter if you have several devices

Cairo traffic is legendary - schedule extra time for getting anywhere in the city, especially during rush hours
